With winter in full swing who better to turn to for tips on stylish layering, fashion nonchalance and overall effortless fabulousness than some of the most prominent French bloggers? We may not be able to understand what they’re saying (unless you know French, in which case, kudos to you), however, as the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so we will do our best to look past the language barrier and focus on the looks to gain deeper insight into how French gals are preparing for the winter. Naturally, what we like, we will snag for ourselves, because in the end, what are bloggers here for if not to give us that much-needed inspo for the gloomy days.

FROSTY FRENCH ROMANCE

Daphné Moreau, the adorable face behind Mode and The City, loves Peter Pan collars, ballerinas – and autumn. Hmm, we wonder how she’ll handle winter… Judging by this particular blog post, in a short skirt and good tights. As the preppy look is back in style, there was no doubt in our minds that French girls would jump right on it, and Daphne did it marvelously. A burgundy sweater is a complete hit, as this will be one of the most coveted colors of the snuggly season. The removable collar is genius as you can wash it separately to avoid the color of the sweater transferring to it.

Another epitome of pure French romance is Valentine Vanesse. Judging by her Instagram feed, she has already embraced the season with burnt orange hues, leopard print, knee-high boots and fuzzy teddy-bear jackets. These jackets seem to be all the rage, and even the nonchalant Parisians don’t seem to be immune to them. Word on the street is, they are as warm and cozy as they look, so perhaps they’re an investment worth making. Now, if you want to channel your French girl vibes, a beret is in order, and when the going gets rough, you have the French stamp of approval to rock corduroy pants.

FIN: Toinen ranskalaisen romantiikan taitaja on Valentine Vanesse, jonka Instagramissa on viime aikoina vilahdellut kauden sesongin ykköshittejä toisensa perään: poltettua oranssia ja leopardikuviota, polveen ulottuvia saappaita ja teddytakkeja. Pariisilaisen tyylin kulmakivi, baskeri on täydellinen talviasuste, ja onpahan Valentine antanut hyväksynnän myös comebackin tehneille vakosamettihousuille.

ROCK CHIC IN A FRENCH MANNER

If sparkle, bold prints and brave accesorising is what you’re looking for Betty Autier  is the one to watch. One of our favorite looks is one featuring a white shirt and all black everything, from the pants to the boots. Sometimes, a woman wants to feel just a little edgy, vampy yet minimalistic, and in this outfit, she has managed to do all of these things. In addition to everything, she seems to be fully ready for winter as the poncho on top seems pretty cozy to us, and those ankle boots with the block heel will certainly protect from the harsh weather. Faux fur is a great solution for maintaining rock chic on colder days and don’t be afraid of all black everything. With a few edgy details – such as the ones on the bag, the look can be quite spectacular.

Speaking of edgy, no one mixes vamp, rock and glam like the surreally gorgeous Louise Ebel. You may not see her preparing for winter in a traditional way – coats jackets etc., but she will definitely give you major inspiration if a little winter sultriness is what is missing from your style. And, if you need some inspiration for dazzling during the winter season, she will encourage you to wear a full-length glitter dress that will accentuate all your curves, so you can be elegant and seductive just like her.

FIN: Rohkeasta puheen ollen, kukaan ei yhdistä rockia ja glamouria niinkuin Louise Ebel. Tältä ranskattarelta nappaat parhaat tyylivinkit talven juhliin, olipa sitten kyseessä samettimekon ja maihareiden yhdistäminen tai kokopitkä, vartaloa nuoleva paljettimekko.

FRENCH GIRLS EMBRACING ATHLEISURE

First on our list is Doris Blanc Pin, because Doris knows fashion. However, one has to wonder whether it is a good idea to rock cut-off shorts at the end of November? Perhaps Paris isn’t as chilly as some other places at this moment. However, we love the rest of the look as it’s pure athleisure, from the poignant tomato red puffer jacket, which will give you a whole lot of swag, to the black top, the hat and even the chunky sneakers. We would probably just swap the shorts for a pair of jeans or even culottes, but the rest is totally on trend and on point.

FIN: Ehkä mikroshortsit eivät aivan sovellu Suomen talveen, mutta Doris knows fashion -blogin Doris Blanc Pin osoittaa, että athleisure-trendi toimii myös talvella. Paksupohjaiset lenkkarit pitävät varpaat lämpimänä niin kauan, kuin maa on kuiva, ja kirkkaanpunainen toppatakki riemastuttaa harmaan loskan keskellä.

Second on our best athleisure trend-rocking list is Barbara Malevicz. She certainly knows how to layer up, so we can definitely learn a lesson or two from her. She might just be the embodiment of athleisure at the moment, what with her oversized logoed sweatshirts, poignant saturated hues and puffer jackets that perfectly complement her level of swag. A designer bag is never a bad idea, especially when rocking athleisure, so this might be another investment to take into consideration.

CLASSIC TAILORING

A photographer turned journalist, turned full-time blogger, Kenza Sadoun el Glaoui is definitely one of Paris’s sweethearts. In our book, she is the embodiment of all things Parisian. From her nonchalantly perfect hair and minimal makeup to the effortlessly striking style. While judging by her Instagram feed, winter isn’t on her mind a lot, she did remind us of two things – nothing beats a well-tailored, classic long coat in a flattering hue – in her case, dusty blue. The second lesson: when you have a great long coat, there is absolutely no reason you can’t rock a killer breezy dress.

FIN: Yksi suosituimmista ranskalaisbloggaajista, Kenza Sadoun el Glaoui edustaa vähäeleisessä, mutta tarkoin hiotussa tyylikkyydessään Pariisin lumoa. Kenza todistaa, ettei mikään voita hyvin istuvaa, klassista villakangastakkia, mutta tylsän mustan sijaan kannattaa kokeilla vaikkapa suloista vaaleansinistä. Nilkkoihin saakka ulottuva takki pitää lämpimänä, vaikka alla olisikin liehuhelmainen minimekko.

If classic tailoring and a curated, pure chic style with interesting details is your cup of tea, you will definitely fall head over heels with Xiayan and her perfect pantsuits, which, with the right well-tailored coat will have you looking sharper and smarter than anyone out there.

FIN: Klassinen räätälöinti, miestenvaatevaikutteet ja mielenkiintoiset yksityiskohdat  painottuvat Xiayanin vivahteikkaan androgyynissä tyylissä. Vyötetty, ylisuuri beliseri onkin yksi pariisilaisen tyylin kulmakivistä.

Finally, there is Leia, a girl you would know is French from a mile away because of her simple hairdo, minimal makeup and a classic nonchalant style comprised of simple items such as a perfectly fitted blazer with another on top (a clever layering trick) and impeccably coordinated accessories. Monochromance will always be in style, so if you’re a minimalist looking to shake things up every now and then, Leia is definitely your girl. She has already snagged her perfectly-fitting minimalistic black coat for the season, so what are you waiting for?  

FIN: Viimeisenä, muttei suinkaan vähäisempänä tyyli-inspiraationamme on Leia, jonka tyylistä näkee jo ensisilmäyksellä, että hän on ranskalainen. Minimaalinen meikki ja huoleton kampaus yhdistyvät vaivattomaan, klassikoista koostuvaan puvustoon. Ranskalaisten tapa solmia bleiseri vyöllä ja heittää toinen vielä harteille, on loistava tapa saada lisälämpöä kylminä talvipäivinä. Kokomusta asu on myös Leian suosiossa, eikä sovi unohtaa sitä hyvin istuvaa villakangastakkia…
