In the summer you want to get away with looking fabulous with as little effort as possible. While fresh, healthy and immaculate skin is the foundation of a summery no make-up make-up, you hardly like to spend hours on intricate contouring, only to find your work of art melting away in a matter of seconds. Whether you’ve worked on your subtle tan or carefully hid away in the shadows, the key element of summer make-up is always glow. When your skin looks dewy, there isn’t much else you need on top. My lazy girl routine will get your glow on in five minutes with only five products. And that includes your moisturizer.

FIN: Kesäaikaan haluan päästä pois peilin äärestä ja ulos aurinkoon mahdollisimman nopeasti. Dermatologist Jennifer Herrmann says that a daily moisturizer doesn’t have to be fancy, as long as it’s got some hyaluronic acid and ceramides to provide hydration and protection. Choosing a moisturizer with a broad spectrum sun block will also kill two birds at one stone, saving you from carrying around an additional sun cream. My current favorite, Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield comes with an SPF 25, boosting hydration with hyaluronic acid, strengthening skin’s natural shield and protecting against pollution.

I’ve never been a big fan of foundation – probably due to the fact that I have to wear a pile of it on stage – but rather hailed for sheer BB-creams. Then I stumbled upon Clinique B.I.Y., a blend-it-yourself pigment you can dose into your moisturizer to get the coverage you want. One drop gives a sheer, BB-cream-like base, two drops resembles a mid-coverage daywear foundation and three drops basically covers everything. The product comes in a pocket -size bottle that lightens your make-up bag significantly. You can use whatever moisturizer you fancy – I’ve even blended it with almond oil with great results. I love the ability to customize my make-up routine without having to carry around a load of different products. This little pack of magic adapts to different situations, from day to night, from bad skin days to great ones.

As for those great skin days, skip the coverage all together. Many make-up artists root for going foundation-free, but there’s one other step they would never miss. That is concealer. I find it hard to commit to one concealer shade as my tan develops so I’ve tackled the problem with buying two concealer wands, one way too light and one way too dark and mix them as I go. Nyx HD Studio Concealer Wand is heavy in pigment and light on your bank account. It has a great durability and by mixing shades 02 and 07 I always get the perfect shade that blends in my skin tone. I know this method is not for everyone but personally, I find it’s the easiest way to make my concealer as unnoticeable as possible. After covering any dark spots, pimples or acne scars, pat the lighter shade to the inner corners of your eyes, below the eyebrows, down the bridge of your nose and above your upper lip.

FIN: Kun ihollasi on menossa hyvä päivä, kannattaa rohkeasti kokeilla monien meikkitaiteilijoiden suosimaa kikkaa: skippaa meikkivoide tai BB-voide kokonaan, ja paikkaa vain pienet epätasaisuudet peitevoiteella. Sävyja 02 ja 07 sekoittamalla saan joka tilanteessa täydellisesti ihon sävyyn mukautuvan peitevoiteen. Vaalea sävy toimii yksinään myös valovoiteena. 

Classics are classics for a reason. I love to test out new products (who wouldn’t) but I always go back to Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder. It doens’t streak even on hot and humid days but stays put from morning to evening. There are plenty of shades to choose from to get that natural, sun-kissed glow.  My skin tone is yellow-based so I tend to go towards the grey browns instead of orangey ones to avoid the fake tan effect.

Remember, you can’t go glowy and matte at the same time so one has to go. To avoid blocking all that beautiful light summer has to offer, try to stay away from setting powder. If you worry about your forehead shining like a mirror, blot it with a tissue or even toilet paper. Works just as well as fancy blotting paper. In the bright summer sunlight I’ve noticed that my normal golden highlighter makes my skin look almost white and ghostly. To emphasize a healthy glow I like to swap golden for a rosy tone. Using pink eye shadow as a blusher is an old trick but my current highlighter favourite also comes from the eye shadow shelf. Besides a fraction of the size of a highlighter compact, Nyx Hot Singles Eyeshadow in Pink Cloud is just the right shade of delicate pink, giving your skin a glowing, been-working-out-all-summer boost a without the disco ball glitter often found in shimmery eyeshadows. With a powder brush, swipe onto your cheekbones, temples, collarbones and of course, eyelids.

On hyvä muistaa, että mattapinta ja hehku eivät mahdu samaan pakettiin. Kesän tarjoamasta valosta kannattaa ottaa kaikki ilo irti, joten jos suinkin pystyt, jätä puuteri pois meikkirutiinistasi. Liiallisen kiillon saa helposti taputeltua pois kasvopaperilla tai jopa vessapaperilla sumentamatta ihon luonnollista, tervettä hehkua. Korostuspuuteri sen sijaan vahvistaa asemiaan, mutta vaihdan kesällä tutun kullanhohtoisen korostuspuuterin roseeskumpan värimaailmaan. Pinkin luomivärin käyttäminen poskipunana on jo vanha kikka, mutta myös nykyinen korostussuosikkini löytyy luomivärihyllyltä. Nyx Hot Singles Eyeshadow sävyssä Pink Cloud on paitsi kooltaan puuterirasiaa pienempi, myös sävyltään erinomainen hieman päivettyneelle kesäiholle.
