May was the month when all the editors, shoppers, influencers, and designers headed to Sydney for yet another Australia Fashion Week in order to enjoy all the new resort-inspired pieces that the next year will have in store for us. And just like any Fashion Week, this one too showed the best-dressed people outside of the catwalk, as it is the street style that we’re secretly watching and trying to imitate. So, what stole the street style show, what are the most dominant trends and how to incorporate them into your own style? Take a look as we choose the best fashion trends from this year’s Mercedes Benz Australia Resort Fashion Week.

FIN: Toukokuun puolivälissä muotimaailman vaikuttajat kerääntyivät Sydneyyn Australian muotiviikolle nauttimaan resort-kokoelmien annista. Kuten muotiviikoilla yleensäkin, myös tällä kertaa katutyyli näyttäytyi jopa catwalkeja kiinnostavampana tarjoten tukevan annoksen tyyli-inspiraatiota. Mitkä trendit siis varastivat shown ja mitä on syytä pitää silmällä omaa kesätyyliä kootessa? Esittelemme seuraavaksi Mercedes Benz Australia Resort Fashion Weekin katumuodin huiput.

Keep It Light

Even though we expected to see more of the Pantone color of the year – Ultra Violet, this trend must be slowly coming to an end. Millennial pink, ultra violet and statement red were, of course, seen in the streets, but not to such a big extent as before – this year, the crown went to white and beige. Almost each and every outfit incorporated one of these colors (if not both) in the form of a suit, blazer, shoes or even a bag, which definitely means that it’s the color we need to look out for. Probably the best example of incorporating these colors was given by the Balinese princess Lindy Klim, who used white and beige for the base of her combination which she made interesting with chunky Louis Vuitton sneakers.

Back To Basics

If you had expected all new trends everywhere, you would’ve been wrong, as Sydney saw the comeback of certain pieces that were popular some time ago and they’re making a comeback. For example, even though it might have seemed ridiculous a couple of years ago, wearing your new Birkenstock sandals with either an elegant or casual outfit is the right thing to do. Not only are they comfortable, they are also minimalistic and brown, which means they can be quite versatile. Moreover, the oversized denim jacket is back, and you can also pair it with other denim garments such as jeans or a denim top. All denim everything for the win! Finally, one of the vintage pieces that is also back is the woven bag – choose any shape (preferably a square or a round one) and there you go. Make your outfit slightly more interesting with a woven bag from the 20’s and 30’s.

FIN: Australian muotiviikon aikana nähtiin monen menneen trendin nousevan tuhkista. Jopa muutama vuosi sitten lanseerattu, älyttömältäkin vaikuttanut Birkenstock-trendi näytti tehneen paluun Sydnenyn kaduille. Myös ylisuuret farkkutakit tekivät comebackin, erityisesti yhdistettynä muihin denim-vaatteisiin. Kokodenimasut täyttivät myös SS18 -catwalkit, joten ei ihme, että ne vilahtelivat myös katukuvassa. Eri muotoiset punotut pikkulaukut näyttivät edelleen pitävän pintansa, mutta erityisesti 20- ja 30-lukujen vivahteet toivat asuihin kiinnostavuutta.

Block Those Colors

It seems that color blocking and logomania are not going anywhere yet, as these are probably the best (and honestly, the most beautiful) trends of the following year. If you choose to color block your clothes, you need to be very cautious, as not everything can be combined. The best idea would be to consult a color wheel and choose colors from a different side of the spectrum but still choose the same hues. This year, yellow and bright red were the winners of the street style, which means that you can choose whatever piece of clothing you want featuring these two colors and you’ll be good to go. If you are playful, you can opt for color block shoes, such as Fendi beige/orange pumps. As far as logos are concerned, they are back more than ever. Almost every tee or sweatshirt had a certain logo on them, so the next time you’re in a shop, make sure to choose something that has a big yet simple logo.

FIN: Myös väriblokit ja logomania pitävät edelleen pintansa. Eri värejä sotkiessa kannattaa kuitenkin olla tarkkana, sillä ihan kaikki värit eivät sovi yhteen. Valinnassa voi käyttää apuna väripyörää, ja yhdistellä joko rohkeasti kaksi täysin vastakkaista väriä tai harmonisesti saman värin useita eri sävyjä. Tänä vuonna katumuodin kirkkaimpia tähtiä olivat punainen ja keltainen, ja jo pelkästään yksi räikeän värikäs asuste tekee nyt lookista trendikkään.

Put That In Your Bum

Louis Vuitton made a huge thing last year when it collaborated with Supreme and introduced the red bum bag which became instantly famous, probably thanks to Kylie Jenner, but also all the other influencers who rocked it on other Fashion Weeks last year. So, as expected, the bum bag trend is huge at the moment, and the good thing is that you can choose the sizes, colors and shapes, as they are literally everywhere. Are we loving this trend? Definitely yes, because not only is it fashionable, but it’s a great thing to have around if you’re only carrying your phone, wallet and keys. Beware of this trend, though, as wearing a bum bag can be a double-edged sword. You can freely rock it while wearing a military combination (that’s also becoming more and more popular) or any other casual or semi-smart combo, but if you opt for a formal dress, choose other types of bags (such as the already mentioned woven bag).

FIN: Louis Vuittonin ja Supremen yhteistyömallisto nosti vyölaukun viime sesongin kuumimmaksi asusteeksi, ja jokaisen arvonsa tuntevan fashionistan vaatekaappiin. Tämäkin trendi jatkaa edelleen voittokulkuaan, ja tarjontaa löytyy kaupoista runsaasti – kaiken kokoista ja muotoista joka budjetille. Monikäyttöinen pikkulaukku näkyi Sydneyssä rentojen ja military-henkisten asujen kantajilla, usein huolettomasti kädessä roikkuen. Vyölaukku ei kuitenkaan toimi joka tilanteessa, vaan juhlavampien mekkojen pariksi kannattaa valita esimerkiksi edellä mainittu punoslaukku.

Thank God for Fashion Weeks, and the photographers who try to catch every single detail from “behind the scenes”, as we can use these outfits as inspiration for creating our own personal look. For next year, think of futurism mixed with basics, and you’ll have yourself a look!
