Ah, designer collaborations. Who doesn’t love them? To get that artistic, haute couture design with a high-street price tag is a dream come true for any fashion fanatic, no matter their wallet size.
For me, the most anticipated designer collaboration of 2018 is Viktor&Rolf’s sustainable capsule collection RE:CYCLE for German e-tailer Zalando launching next month. The rebellious Dutch design duo has been challenging the way we see fashion for almost 25 years and they’re applying that same couture design ideology to create a collection for a wider audience. The 17-piece limited edition collection with prices ranging from 50€ to 250€ has been created from Zalando’s unsold stock and returns and will hit the online store on February 1st.
The collaboration was first announced at Bread&Butter festival in September last year, where Viktor&Rolf presented a curated couture show featuring selected designs from their three most recent collections. “For us, Haute Couture has always been a laboratory for experimentation. With the past few Haute Couture collections we have explored creative recycling methods: new, artistic ways to re-use elements from the past to create something new. With our upcoming collaboration with Zalando, we are excited to bring forth this spirit of ‘sustainable couture’ in a bold and accessible way by breathing new life into forgotten garments.”

2018 on vasta alussa, mutta jo ensi kuussa julkaistava Viktor&Rolfin ja Zalandon kestävän kehityksen yhteistyökokoelma RE:CYCLE on mielestäni vuoden kiinnostavin. Kapinallisesta hengestään tunnettu hollantilainen suunnittelijapari on haastanut käsitystämme muodista jo 25 vuoden ajan, mutta nyt he soveltavat anarkistista haute couture -ajatteluaan luodakseen kokoelman suuremmalle yleisölle. 17-osainen kokoelma on luotu Zalandon ylijäämästä ja myyntikelvottomista palautuksista, ja sen hintataso pysyttelee helposti lähestyttävällä 50-250€ alueella. RE:CYCLE -naistenvaatekokoelma saapuu nettikauppaan torstaina 1. helmikuuta.
Viktor&Rolf ilmoitti ensimmäisen kerran Zalando-yhteistyöstä viime syyskuussa järjestetyllä Bread&Butter -festivaalilla Berliinissä. Suunnittelijakaksikko esitteli silloin festivaaliyleisölle kolmen viimeisen kokoelmansa asuista kootun haute couture -näytöksen. “Meille Haute Couture on aina ollut tietynlainen koelaboratorio, ja olemme muutamissa viime kokoelmissamme tutkineet luovia kierrätysmetodeja – uusia, taiteellisia tapoja käyttää vanhoja materiaaleja uuden luomiseen. Olemme innoissamme tulevasta yhteistyöstä Zalandon kanssa, ja mahdollisuudesta tuoda esille ‘kestävän kehityksen couturea’ rohkealla ja helposti saavutettavalla tavalla.”
