Pantone Color Institute, the global forecaster of color trends, has announced 18-3838 Ultra Violet to be the color of 2018. This blue-based purple draws our minds directly to outer space, mystery, magic and the sub-conscious – all things teetering on the verge of reality and imagination. Its rarity in nature has given purple a supernatural aura for centuries.

According to Leatrice Wiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, “We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet” , the color symbolizing individuality, visionary, experimentation and ingenuity. It has also been attached to spiritualism and mindfulness, believed to assist those who seek the meaning of life and spiritual fulfillment.

In color symbolism purple and violet represent the future, dreams and harmony, and in this unstable world we’re living in, what could be a better color to face the new year with.
