Usually in cosmetics higher price equals higher quality but that’s not always the case. Some affordable brands may have a hidden gem amongst their line of products and some have even become cult favorites thanks to their luxe effect with a budget price tag. Here are the top5 budget beauty products I can’t live without.

FIN: Yleensä kosmetiikassa korkeampi hinta tarkoitaa korkeampaa laatua, mutta niinkuin kaikissa säännöissä, tässäkin on poikkeuksia. Joidenkin markettimerkkien valikoimasta saattaa löytyä yksi todella laadukas tuote, joka löytyy vain testaamalla, kun taas joistakin edullisista brändeistä on jopa tullut kulttisuosikkeja luksuslaatunsa ansiosta.  Tässä omat suosikkini, joita ilman en aamun kauneusrutiinista selviäisi.

If you get tanned during the summer, chances are you need to swap your foundation for a darker shade and the same goes to your bronzer. Since the warm hue that makes your sun-kissed skin glow in summer will only make your pale winter skin look like Kardashians-gone-terribly-wrong, you need to go for a lighter shade during winter months. While Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder is my summertime favourite, my winter make-up bag needs a bronzer that shifts to cool grey, rather than warm orange. I also tend to go from a cool pink blush to a more peachy one when my tan fades and I’ve found the perfect agent for the duty. Rimmel Kate Sculpting Palette (9,45€) combines a bronzer/shading powder, a blush and a highlighter in a flat, compact box. The palette comes in two shades, perfect to lighten up that winter skin tone resembling fat-free milk.

FIN: Jos ihosi ruskettuu edes jonkin verran, tarvitset todennäköisesti kesäkuukausina tummemman meikkivoiteen. Myös aurinkopuuteri on syytä sovittaa vuodenaikaan ja ihonväriin sopivaksi, sillä päivetystä kauniisti korostava sävy näyttääkin kalpealla iholla vain epäonnistuneelta Kardashian-kopiolta. Vaikka ehdoton kesäsuosikkini onkin Guerlainin klassikko Terracotta Bronzing Powder, tarvitsen talvisin sävyn joka taittaa lämpimän oranssin sijaan viileään harmaanruskeaan. Poskipunalle käy tässä tapuksessa toisinpäin, sillä siirryn rusketuksen kaikottua viileän pinkistä punasta pehmeämpään persikkaan. Rimmelin Kate Sculpting Palette (9,45€) on kompakti 3-in-1 tehopakkaus, pitäen sisällään aurinkopuuteri-varjostusvärin, poskipunan ja highlighterin juuri oikeissa sävyissä herättämään rasvattoman maidon värisen talvi-ihoni eloon.

I’ve tried them all, from super-luxe to supermarket, and there’s only one nail polish that never fails to impress me. Believe it or not, I’m talking about H&M Nail Polish (4,99€). It glides on smoothly, dries fast and can easily last for a week without retouching. The shades are pigment-rich and only one layer is often enough. And the best part: you don’t have to soak your fingers in acetone for ages or wrap them in aluminum foil to remove it – it wipes off easily with a cotton pad and just a little bit of remover.

FIN: Olen kokeillut kaikkea superluksuksesta supermarkettikamaan, mutta vain yksi kynsilakkamerkki onnistuu joka kerta yllättämään iloiseti. Uskokaa tai älkää, mutta kyseessä on H&M Beauty -kynsilakka (4,99€), joka liukuu kynnelle tasaisesti, kuivuu nopeasti ja kestää jopa viikon korjaamatta. Kaikki sävyt ovat runsaspigmenttisiä, joten usein vain yksi lakkauskerros riittää. Ja mikä parasta: lakan poistamiseksi ei tarvitse liottaa käsiään asetonissa tai kääriä kynsiä alumiinifolioon – vain sipaisu kynsilakanpoistoaineeseen kastetulla pumpulilla riittää.

Nyx Cosmetics HD Photogenic Concealer Wand (8,11€) is a pigment-rich and long-lasting miracle worker your make-up bag needs. With 23 shades to choose from, it blends in naturally, hiding imperfections and dark circles without looking at all cakey. This is by fas the best concealer I’ve ever tried and with that price tag it’s a steal!

FIN: Nyx Cosmeticsin HD Photogenic Concealer Wand (8,11€) on runsaspigmenttinen ja pitkäkestoinen peitevoide ja aamuisin peilistä tuijottavan zombienaaman pelastus. 23 sävyn joukosta löytyy jokaiselle sopiva, ja voide levittyy iholle pehmeästi luoden täysin huomaamattoman ja luonnollisen lopputuloksen. Tämä on ehdottomasti paras kokeilemani peitevoide, ja tähän hintaan se on todellinen löytö!

At this point I think it’s become pretty clear that I love The Ordinary Skincare. When I feel that my skin needs a wake-up call, I reach for their Azelaic Acid 10% Suspension (7,20€). Azelaic Acid is produced naturally by yeast that lives on healthy skin and can also be found in grains. It’s a multi-functional support ingredient and antioxidant that brightens the skin tone, evens out skin texture and reduces the look of blemishes. It’s a great acid option if your skin gets irritated by AHAs and BHAs (like mine) and since being silicone-based, it works wonders as a primer too!

FIN: Tässä vaiheessa lienee jo selvää, että rakastan The Ordinary Skincaren tuotteita. Stressi ja lyhyet yöunet näkyvät heti ihossani epätasaisuutena ja punoituksena, mutta Azelaic Acid 10% Suspension (7,20€) on tähän kullanarvoinen ratkaisu. Atselaiinihappoa löytyy viljoista, mutta sitä muodostuu myös luontaisesti iholla elävästä hiivasta. Se on ihoa monin tavoin hoitava antioksidantti, joka kirkastaa ihon sävyä, tasoittaa ja vähentää epäpuhtauksia. Atselaiinihappo on myös hyvä vaihtoehto herkkäihoisille (niinkuin minä), jotka reagoivat punoituksella AHA- ja BHA-hapoille. Silikonipohjaisen koostumuksensa ansiosta tuote toimii loistavasti myös primerina meikin alla.

All problems seem less severe if tackled with a little bit of humor. Anatomicals is an affordable and cruelty free skincare brand that instantly puts a smile on your face with their product labels. Zap! Zap! Zap! Gets That Chap (4,73€) is a day-and-night spot treatment that the brand refers to as “the cosmetic equivalent of a nuclear warhead”, and the description couldn’t be more accurate. Applied twice a day, this clever little product makes pimples disappear in just three days without any scarring. The key ingredients are tea tree oil and witch hazel so it kills the bacteria and inflammation without drying the skin like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

FIN: Kaikki ongelmat tuntuvat vähemmän raskailta, kun niihin suhtautuu huumorilla. Anatomicals on edullinen ja eläinystävällinen kosmetiikkamerkki, jonka tuotteet saavat hymyn kasvoille kieli poskessa keksityillä nimillään. Zap! Zap! Zap! Gets That Chap (4,73€) on kaksivaiheinen finnihoito, jonka brändi on nimennyt “ydinaseen kosmetiikkavastineeksi”, eikä nimi ole kovin kaukana totuudesta. Kaksipäinen puikko pitää sisällään eri tökötit yöksi ja päiväksi, ja jo kolmen vuorokauden jälkeen finneistä ei ole jälkeäkään. Tehoaineina toimivat teepuuöljy ja taikapähkinä, jotka tappavat bakteereja vähentäen tulehdusta, mutta eivät kuivata ihoa toisin kuin bentsoyyliperoksidi tai salisyylihappo.
